I see the value in making your concept of high performance explicit and how mental skills fit into that, I guess where I'm finding myself stuck is seeing how that influences an intake process? Is this to be used in the sense that when doing an intake with a new athlete it is to help formulate when and where to implement certain mental skills training?

Great observation and partially. Where it would fit into an intake process is that you may start to evaluate certain elements that represent your philosophy (not from a literal mental skills perspective, but from an overarching philosophy perspective). As an example, my big pitch is how important it is to slow down and have clear intentions with how you train and compete. Naturally, that also means I'm big on mindfulness and learning, so there are certain questions in my intake process (instrument and during discussion) that I may probe into because these are concepts that I am likely to teach as part of my concept of what it takes to reach high performance.

I know that isn't super specific, but hope that gives some more insight into how that could impact your intake process.
