Observation
You will never achieve buy-in from a first talk. Trust takes time. Even if you are hitting on all the major pain points a client group can relate to, the bottom line is that they don’t know you. With every group, you’ll have early adopters, you’ll have some that get it - but are unsure, and you’ll have some that don’t value it enough. Hence the classic - 30/30/30 rule. However, you can still deliver a meaningful first talk. Just stop worrying about getting “buy-in” and focus on having fun, with a focus.
The Path Ahead
Focus on the following and see the difference:
Keep it short. (15-20 minutes tops)
Focus on a message. (What are you about?)
Share a captivating story, short activity, line of reflection questions. Anything to get them critically thinking about how you fit within their group.
End with next steps and what to expect
Short and sweet, focused on a clear message in a fun way to set up expectations for what you can do or will do with them.
