"In dating and business, sometimes you have to fail to learn what you really want."

Observation
Take consulting one engagement at a time.
In a previous newsletter, I discussed why it’s important to remove cost from a first meeting Showing Value. In a similar fashion, for those who are new to consulting, we can leverage dating as a great analogy to help uncomplicate things a bit. It takes time to really know what you like to do and in the meantime, our minds race with how we can support individuals and teams as we establish our processes. For now, don’t let that impact your confidence.
If you are on a first date, what’s the goal? To get a second date.
If you are meeting with a coach, what’s the goal? To get a chance to work with their team.
When we are dating, we are only trying to get to know the other person better, taking it “date to date”. Over time, we may start “dating” more formally, then we may get into a relationship, etc. Consulting can be the same. Workshop to workshop, season to season, etc.
The Path Ahead
If you are first starting out, you know you can deliver workshops and individual coaching sessions. Start there. If a coach wants you to help work on confidence, gather the details and create simple plans such as:
2-3 workshop series on confidence for example
Do individual sessions, one session at a time. Don’t worry about packages.
You’ll start building strong relationships without feeling overwhelmed by complex pricing structures and/or complex commitments. Over time (and a lot of failing — in a good way), you’ll figure out what you like and how you like to deliver it. Once you get there, then you can decide how you want to present that.

REMINDER - Second Newsletter
As our readers have grown, so has the diversity of roles in our audience. To help provide more targeted topics, I have started a second newsletter. Think Slow, Play Fast. The second newsletter will focus on mindset and is geared more towards parents and leaders. This newsletter will continue to focus on navigating the field and considerations both from a knowledge perspective as well as consulting.
